Lunar is a small consulting practice in Destin, Florida. We work on the unglamorous parts of marketing — positioning, customer research, operations — that ordinarily get skipped because they don't make for a good slide. We do the thinking work, in writing, on a clock that runs by the month.
Lunar started in 2018, off a wraparound porch on Holiday Isle, by two consultants who had spent the prior decade inside larger firms watching the same pattern: a client engaged for "growth," everyone built campaigns, the campaigns ran, the numbers moved, the engagement ended, and a year later the client was back where they started. The work that would have actually compounded — the positioning document nobody read, the customer-research interviews nobody bothered with, the marketing-ops investment that didn't make next quarter's slide — never got done.
We built Lunar around doing that work, and very little else. We do not run media. We do not produce video or shoot UGC. We have a short list of execution-side partners we trust for those, and we'll make introductions if you ask. What we do is the part where someone has to sit with the data, talk to the customers, and write the document that nobody else is going to.
The practice runs six concurrent engagements. Median engagement length is fourteen months. We don't pitch by deck and we don't do introductory calls longer than thirty minutes.
These are the areas we've done long enough that the work feels routine. Anything outside this list, we're either honest about not being the right shop, or we bring in a partner who is.
Three weeks. Customer interviews, internal interviews, the read of existing materials. We deliver a thematic memo before we draft anything else. If the memo is wrong, we want to know before we go further.
Three weeks. Positioning document, messaging architecture, narrative. Working drafts, reviewed with you weekly. Output is one document — not a deck — that the rest of your team can use without us in the room.
Four weeks. We work with your team to put the positioning into the systems that need it — website copy, sales materials, CRM templates, paid ads briefs. We write the briefs; your team or partner runs them.
Ongoing, on a monthly retainer. A standing call, written feedback on materials, occasional research as needed. Many engagements end here — some run for years.
The four-phase path described above. Twelve weeks for the build, then transition to monthly advisory. The most common engagement here. Most clients stay on advisory for at least a year after the initial build.
An eight-week, fixed-scope engagement. Customer research and a thematic memo. No positioning work, no operations rebuild. The right pick when you genuinely just need the data.
A monthly call, written feedback as needed, and a half-day workshop quarterly. For founders and CMOs who want a senior outside read on the work in progress without bringing in a full engagement.
Sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding a senior in-house marketing hire. Six-month engagement that ends ninety days after the hire's start date. Includes search, interview design, and post-hire advisory.
